Do you want to learn a few strategies that will show you how to declutter any room?

The holidays are just around the corner, and if you're anything like me, you haven't had the energy or time to clean up the occasional mess. Now, after weeks of procrastination, your home is cluttered, messy, and chaotic. Lets face it, not everyone has the time to scrub their entire house from top to bottom every week. After a while, everything just begins to pile up all at once (or so it seems). Once most people begin to see the clutter, they immediately go into "This place is such a wreck! Its going to be impossible for me to go to work, work out, and clean this place up before my parents stop by for their fair share of Holiday cheer. Or at least that is what I use to do. Between work, staying (moderately) healthy, taking care of my furry babies, and trying to squeeze in a few hours of quality time with my husband. Honestly, with all of this stress, something has to give.

How to Declutter Anything & Simplify Your Life: Technique #1

The trick to decluttering anything from a desk to an entire room, is to work in small, reasonable chunks of time. Simply, pick a part of the room; then, clean, tidy, and organize. Start small, the first place you clean and tidy doesn't necessarily have to be the epicenter of the chaos. Here's an example: Let's say that you want to declutter the livingroom. First, clean off a desk or your coffee table. After you're done cleaning that one spot, just walk away. Do other errands that you would normally do. Spare just a few minutes every day, and before you know it, your house will be clutter free. This strategy has helped me get motivated to organize and clean up my living space several times over the years.

Another strategy to tackle cluttered, unkempt spaces is to clean up or pick up one specific type of item throughout the entire room in one go. For instance, you would walk through the entire room you are focusing on, and gather up all of the paper clutter. Collecting the items won't take a long time. In fact this strategy allows you to group together alike or similar items; which makes organizing everything a breeze! My Godmother taught me this strategy. She practically swears by it, and she has the cleanest, most organized house of anyone that I know.

Don't Fall Back Into Old Habits

Remember that you are decluttering not only your house but your life as well. Once you reach a point where you are satisfied with your organized, orderly home, do not get comfortable. Try not to let clutter gather up again in your house. It is easier to just put up that sweater, wash that plate, or paw through the mail than it is to go through all of your knickknacks again. Cluttered, disorderly spaces do not provide the right environment for you to simplify your life. I plan to start sharing more simple ways to declutter your home and simplify your life.
